Mowing patterns throughout the golf course constantly require adjustment. This is particularly true in regards to the "tall roughs" on the Blue Course considering the impact of lost trees in 2024
and the 2025 renovation work. This is our first summer since those changes, and
we are now able to better understand how these areas impact play.

property next week to assist with mowing pattern changes. Our goal is to maintain the course's aesthetics and
strategic value while ensuring it remains enjoyable and fair for golfers of all
skill levels.
This week we also tested out a new style fan on #9 Gold green. Currently we are able to run the fan using a small generator but we will soon install underground power. The new fans actually use less power, are quieter, and still provide excellent air flow.
Additional work this week included: continued vertical mowing of fairways, bunker maintenance, spray applications to fairways, and continued adjustment of of the new irrigation system.
Stroke Play Championship underway on 11 Blue last Sunday
We wrapped up the Stroke Play Championship last weekend. Congratulations to Will MacDonald on winning with a three day total 217 (+1).
All ponds are once again full thanks to timely rains!
After nearly three weeks of dry weather, we received about 1" of rain Sunday and Monday, followed by another 0.4" last night. Any rainfall this time of year is a welcome bonus, and it came at the perfect time by refilling our irrigation ponds. We also enjoyed a brief break from the summer heat, which our greens certainly appreciated. Hopefully everyone had a chance to enjoy the cooler weather, as the forecast looks to return to hot and dry conditions for the foreseeable future.

While the rain has been hugely beneficial - it has resulted in rapid growth on tees, fairways, and roughs. As such much of our focus this week revolved around on catching up with routine mowing, trimming, blowing etc. We also continued vertical mowing fairways, completed core aeration in several areas, and made additional adjustments to mowing patterns in the tall rough to improve playability. Next week we will continue these efforts while also lightly aerating (venting) greens on Monday and begin installing a new fan for #9 Gold.

It looks to be another busy weekend of golf beginning with the MGA on the Blue Course this afternoon.

It has now been nearly three weeks since our last measurable rainfall, and for the first time this year, drought conditions are beginning to show. Overall, the golf courses remain in very good condition for this time of year, but irrigation lakes have started to drop, and areas that do not receive irrigation are becoming more noticeable.
With this being the first full summer operating with our new irrigation systems, our staff has been spending a significant amount of time fine-tuning sprinkler coverage, run times, and programming to maximize efficiency and maintain consistent playing conditions.

On Monday, all greens were lightly vented (aerated) and sand topdressed to improve air exchange and maintain smooth, healthy putting surfaces throughout the summer.

We also continued our fairway improvement program using a combination of traditional vertical mowing and a Uni-Rake to reduce grain and remove excess organic material.

On the Blue Course, we continued resetting several of the tall rough areas to create a cleaner, more uniform appearance. This time of year also provides an opportunity to evaluate and refine mowing patterns where improvements can be made.

Our GPS-guided sprayers remained busy throughout the week, completing multiple applications on greens, surrounds, tees, fairways, and bunker faces to keep the turf healthy during the summer heat.

We are looking forward to a fun and busy holiday weekend at the Club, with golf tournaments in the morning, pool activities throughout the day, and, of course, the fireworks show beginning at 9:30 PM.
For those participating in the shotgun starts on Saturday, please be aware that there is a possibility of temporary hole closures on Blue holes #7, #8, and #9, as well as Gold holes #10 and #11. If necessary, these closures will be determined at the discretion of the Dallas Fire Department to accommodate fireworks setup and safety requirements.
This week, our staff continued aerating fairways and roughs on both courses, installed additional drainage at the pool, and adjusted mowing patterns on Blue holes #1 and #6, significantly reducing the amount of "tall rough" in between these holes to improve pace of play.

Last weekend was spent cleaning up after Friday's storms. Our crew once again did an outstanding job repairing bunkers and removing debris. Since then, we've remained rain-free despite exceptionally hot and humid conditions. Our maintenance efforts this week primarily focused on catching up with routine mowing, fairway vertical mowing, and keeping greens healthy.

Bermudagrass tees, fairways, and roughs continue to grow rapidly. While rough mowing heights have not changed, the rough is certainly thick and playing more penal. To keep conditions manageable, we are mowing roughs twice each week whenever possible.

We have also continued battling fairway scalping caused by turf grain, recent rains, and the age of many of our fairways. To improve mowing quality, crews are vertical mowing several fairways each day. In July, we'll expand this program with more aggressive vertical mowing followed by sand topdressing across most fairways.

This week we also began applying our summer fertilizer program to all tees, fairways, and roughs. While it may seem unusual to fertilize during a period of rapid growth, the turf is using a tremendous amount of energy this time of year. The product is approximately 80% slow-release nitrogen, providing a light, consistent feeding over the next 10 to 12 weeks to help the turf remain healthy through the summer.
Bentgrass greens continue to perform well, although putting speeds have naturally slowed with the heat and humidity. Our summer focus is keeping the greens healthy by reducing mechanical stress, light venting/aeration (last completed on Monday 6.22), precise hand watering, and commitment to a comprehensive spray program.
We're also planning to install a new fan at #9 Gold green. If it performs as advertised we may also replace the existing fan on #18 Blue green with the same style. We'll share more about the benefits of fans in an upcoming update.

We received just under 2.5 inches of rain in approximately one hour Friday morning - bringing our 30 day total to just over 8 inches. While no major damage occurred, the intensity of the storm resulted in significant—but temporary—flooding, large amounts of debris, and washouts in nearly all bunkers across both courses. Our staff worked throughout the day to ensure both courses remained passable and playable. However, due to continued wet conditions, most cleanup efforts had to be postponed until Saturday morning. We will be exceptionally busy this weekend completing normal course setup while also focusing on debris removal and bunker repairs.
Prior to the storm, weather conditions were extremely hot and humid, with heat index values consistently exceeding 100 degrees. Fortunately, conditions remained dry enough throughout the week to mow all roughs twice while also completing routine mowing and spray applications on tees and fairways.

This week we also began vertical mowing fairways, a process that removes excess grain and helps prevent unsightly scalping during mowing. This work will continue next week, with crews targeting two to three holes each morning.

Additional work included sod installation around the cart barn and behind #2 Gold green on Tuesday. We also repaired and re-sodded several weak turf areas throughout the property.
For the weekend, golfers should expect carts to remain on paths only. Green speeds will also be slower than normal for this time of year due to the significant moisture and humidity we have experienced this week. Thanks for your support and have a great weekend!

Last weekend’s 4-Ball Championship was certainly a wet one, with nearly 3 inches of rainfall arriving between Saturday and Sunday. Despite the challenging conditions, our crew did an outstanding job Sunday morning getting both courses back into shape and playable for the event. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and participated.

On Monday, we completed a light sand topdressing and venting (also known as light aeration) on greens. While golfers may still notice some of the small vent holes on certain greens, the impact on ball roll is minimal. This practice improves airflow to the root system and is especially important during periods of high humidity - which have certainly experienced for the last several days. By Tuesday, course conditions had dried considerably, allowing our team to focus on catching up with routine mowing of tees, fairways, and roughs which continue to grow in full force thanks to the rain.

Our staff also worked alongside a crew from Southern Botanicals to refresh the landscape islands at the front entrance and along the main drive. Existing plant material was relocated, and a combination of liriope and caladiums was added to create a denser, fuller appearance.

We also put a new aerator into service this week that will be used extensively on tees, fairways, and roughs throughout the summer. One of the biggest advantages of this machine is its ability to pull and collect cores simultaneously, eliminating much of the labor-intensive cleanup traditionally associated with aeration. The collected cores can then be repurposed to help level uneven areas in the rough. Members can expect to see this machine in action regularly throughout the summer months.

Finally, progress also continued around the cart barn area where we were able to complete additional drainage work and install decomposed granite. The remaining areas are scheduled to receive a combination of Bermuda and Zoysia sod early next week.
